5 Breakout Stars of 2013

2013 was a crazy year for Hong Kong television, but here are 5 stars who I think have made a major breakthrough. This list consists of both newcomers and people who have been in the industry a long time but might have made a bigger jump in their career in 2013.

1. Chilam Cheung

Chilam has been in the industry for over 20 years and have had many successful songs and was also a big hit in a lot of the TVB series he participated in. He had another big breakthrough in 2013 when he portrayed Captain Cool in Triumph in the Skies II which led to a big boost in popularity, a new record deal, more acting opportunities, and an estimated $83 million which includes his many public appearances. He also won many awards such as the Best Actor in Malaysia and My Favorite Male character at the TVB awards. He is also planning to hold a concert at the HK coliseum in 2014.

2013 Young Choice Annual Festival

Congratulations to Chilam Cheung for winning Most Popular Hong Kong and Taiwan Actor and Myolie Wu for Most Popular Hong Kong and Taiwan Actress at the 2013 Young Choice Annual Festivals. Triumph in the Skies II was voted the Most Popular Series. This was based on online votes by youths through the video website Todou and their own official website.

Jay Chou had a concert in Hong Kong the other night and invited Chilam Cheung as a guest to sing the original Triumph in the Skies themesong.

Chilam Cheung will be releasing another album through Neway and this is his first single. They bought the rights to the original Triumph in the Skies themesong. I'm not really a fan of the new arrangement but maybe I just need to get used to it. Anyways, I'm happy for another Chilam album!

More Triumph 2 filming scenes

Chilam Cheung was filming another scene for Triumph in the Skies 2. The scene talks about how Chilam finds out the water in his shower is not working, so he goes outside to check what's wrong. He gets mistaken for a pervert and gets thrown a bag of vegetables to his face.

Myolie Wu and Chilam Cheung were filming some scenes for Triumph in the Skies 2 yesterday. Go check out Chilam's new car! Very cool.

Triumph in the Skies 2 Filming Scene

Myolie Wu and Chilam Cheung plays half-siblings in the new Triumph in the Skies 2. This scene is about Myolie having to bail Chilam out from jail.

They both look so young here! I think it's because Myolie has minimal makeup while Chilam just never ages!

Triumph in the Skies II Press Conference

This is only the partial cast since this is just a press conference for Triumph in the Skies 2, and not the actual costume fitting. 

• Myolie will play 2 different characters. She will reprise Zoe who dies within the first few episodes as well as a mechanic who likes Ron. (I'm personally excited for this since I thought they had a lot of chemistry as Zoe and Isaac.) The newer character is also supposed to play Chilam's sister.
• Francis, Fala, and Chilam will have some sort of love triangle.
• Kenneth and Elena will have an older woman/younger man relationship.
• Nancy Wu and Him Law will play a pair (not pictured).
