Best Actor
Kenneth Ma (The Hippocratic Crush)
Roger Kwok (Queens of Diamonds and Hearts)
Kevin Cheng (Gloves Come Off)
Raymond Wong (Gloves Come Off)
Joe Ma (Tiger Cubs)
Bosco Wong (Witness Insecurity)
Moses Chan (The Last Steep Ascent)
Raymond Lam (Highs and Lows)
Damian Lau (Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles)
Wayne Lai (The Confidant)
Thoughts: Why is Raymond Wong nominated for Gloves Come Off when he was more praised for his performance in Bottled Passion?
Snubs: The only big snub I see is that they didn't nominate Michael Miu for either L'Escargot or Highs and Lows.
My pick: My choice would be either Raymond Lam or Kenneth Ma but I see Raymond winning.
Best Actress
Charmaine Sheh (When Heaven Burns)
Niki Chow (Bottled Passion)
Fala Chen (Queens of Diamonds and Hearts)
Linda Chung (Witness Insecurity)
Myolie Wu (Ghetto Justice II)
Liza Wang (Divas in Distress)
Aimee Chan (The Last Steep Ascent)
Kate Tsui (Highs and Lows)
Tavia Yeung (Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles)
Michelle Yim (The Confidant)
Thoughts: Aimee for Best Actress? How does she qualify for lead when Kenny Wong was nominated for supporting?
Snubs: They could have easily replaced Aimee with Kristal Tin, Sonjia Kwok for L'Escargot, Maggie Shiu for Masters of Play, or Selena Li for Gloves Come Off. Not saying that I would have wanted any of them to win, but they would have been better choices for nominees.
My pick: My biased pick would be for Myolie Wu in Ghetto Justice II since I thought she did an excellent job but there is no way she is going to win 2 years in a row. The real fight is Kate vs Tavia with Michelle Yim as the dark horse. They changed the voting for this category so that the public decides (umm.. they should vote on favorite character, not "Best" actor/actress), so I think the younger people have a better chance since I can imagine more younger people voting online to support their idols. To me, Tavia is the better actress and she would be my pick to win this year, but Kate had the better role and has the most buzz. I think Kate did a really good job but it wasn't as great as the media puts it out to be. On the other hand, Tavia's character in Silver Spoons, Sterling Shackles is pretty annoying to me and it doesn't help that the series is pretty slow. Actually, I would probably vote for Linda but who I would want to win is Tavia. However, I do think Kate has the advantage right now.

Divas in Distress
The Last Steep Ascent
Highs and Lows

The Confidant
Thoughts: The Confidant! The series is not even halfway done and I'm already hooked. It is by far one of the best series this year.
Best Supporting Actor
Oscar Leung (L'Escargot)
Him Law (The Hippocratic Crush)
Edwin Siu (Daddy Good Deeds)
Ram Tseung (Witness Insecurity)
Jazz Lam (Ghetto Justice II)
Koo Ming Wah (Divas in Distress)
Kenny Wong (The Last Steep Ascent)
Vincent Wong (Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles)
Power Chan (The Confidant)
Elliot Yue (The Confidant)
Thoughts: Although Jazz Lam was my pick to win the Most Improved last year, I don't think he should be nominated for Best Supporting this year. They should also remove Vincent Wong because I don't think there's anything special about his role so far. The could have nominated Ron Ng for SSSS but I guess they don't want to label him as a supporting actor even though that's what his role is.
Snubs: So many! Evergreen Mak for Daddy Good Deeds, Pierre Ngo for King Maker, Chris Lai for King Maker, Ben Wong for Highs and Lows, Raymond Cho for The Confidant. In fact, there was heavy buzz for both Pierre and Ben but they were both snubbed even though they were both previously award winners!
My pick: I love Oscar Leung's portrayal but I really want Power Chan to win. His portrayal of the annoying yet lovable eunuch is perfect and he certainly deserves this award. His biggest competition is Koo Ming Wah but that character is the same as that other guy in No Good Either Way! I'm happy he's finally recognized for his efforts but Power has the more complex role.

Best Supporting Actress
Mandy Wong (L'Escargot)
Nancy Wu (Gloves Come Off)
Rachel Kan (Master of Play)
Mary Hon (Three Kingdoms RPG)
Christine Kuo (Ghetto Justice II)
Florence Kwok (King Maker)
Eliza Sam (Divas in Distress)
Helena Law (The Last Steep Ascent)
Elena Kong (Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles)
Aimee Chan (The Confidant)
Thoughts: Christine Kuo was horrible in Ghetto Justice II and Eliza Sam is cute for a newbie but her acting is below average. There are so many more deserving people that could have been nominated.
Snubs: Elaine Yiu for Bottled Passion, Natalie Tong for Gloves Come Off, Rebecca Chan for Bottled Passion, Angela Tong for When Heaven Burns, etc
My pick: Elena Kong or Nancy Wu, but mainly rooting for Elena and I think she might win after being snubbed out of the top 5 last year.
My Favorite TV Male Character
Kenneth Ma (The Hippocratic Crush)
Bobby Au Yeung (House of Harmony and Vengeance)
Bosco Wong (Witness Insecurity)
Kevin Cheng (Ghetto Justice II)
Moses Chan (The Last Steep Ascent)
Michael Miu (Highs and Lows)
Raymond Lam (Highs and Lows)
Damian Lau (Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles)
Wayne Lai (The Confidant)
Raymond Wong (The Confidant)
Thoughts: So the audience decides the "Best" while the executives decides the "Favorite"?! Lame!
My pick: Kenneth Ma! If he doesn't get Best Actor, he should definitely get this award.
Mandy Wong (L'Escargot)
Nancy Wu (Gloves Come Off)
Rachel Kan (Master of Play)
Mary Hon (Three Kingdoms RPG)
Christine Kuo (Ghetto Justice II)
Florence Kwok (King Maker)
Eliza Sam (Divas in Distress)

My Favorite TV Female Character
Charmaine Sheh (When Heaven Burns)
Niki Chow (Bottled Passion)
Tavia Yeung (The Hippocratic Crush)
Fala Chen (Queens of Diamonds and Hearts)
Myolie Wu (Ghetto Justice II)
Kristal Tin (King Maker)
Eliza Sam (Divas in Distress)
Kate Tsui (Highs and Lows)
Tavia Yeung (Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles)
Michelle Yim (The Confidant)
Thoughts: They really should remove one of Tavia's nominations, preferably for SSSS since it doesn't help her if it dilutes votes, and there are many other people who could have been nominated for this category. This is actually the only category that Eliza should be nominated for since it doesn't really have to do with acting, and her character was well liked.
My pick: If Tavia ends up with Best Actress, then Kate Tsui should get this award since her character was really popular.
Most Improved Male Artiste
Vincent Wong (Wish and Switch, Tiger Cubs, Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles)
King Kong (Let It Be Love, King Maker, Ghetto Justice II, Jade Solid Gold, Battle of the Senses, TV Funny, Neighborhood Gourmet 2)
Oscar Leung (L'Escargot, Queens of Diamonds and Hearts, House of Harmony and Vengeance, Tiger Cubs, The Confidant, Big Boys Club)
Edwin Siu (Daddy Good Deeds, Gloves Come Off, The Last Steep Ascent, The Confidant, TV Funny)
Him Law (L'Escargot, The Hippocratic Crush, Tiger Cubs, Divas in Distress)
Thoughts: I'm surprised that Jason Chan isn't nominated since they seem to be pushing him next year.
My pick: Oscar Leung!!! A total scene stealer in both L'Escargot and Tiger Cubs and stood out the best of all the other nominees.
Most Improved Female Artiste
Eliza Sam (Ghetto Justice II, Divas in Distress, The Amur River)
Christine Kuo (Ghetto Justice II, Tiger Cubs)
Mandy Wong (L'Escargot, The Hippocratic Crush, Tiger Cubs, Divas in Distress)
Cilla Kung (Three Kingdoms RPG, Daddy Good Deeds, Witness Insecurity)
Katy Kung (Bottled Passion, Gloves Come Off, No Good Either Way, The Last Steep Ascent, Living Up)
Thoughts: I guess going from no filming to filming something qualifies you for Most Improved? They obviously want to push Eliza up hence her nomination here. Christine was panned in both her roles and those 2 should not have been nominated in this category.
Snubs: Samantha Ko whose character in The Last Steep Ascent was very lovable, Angel Chiang who made a breakthrough as a young Charmaine in When Heaven Burns, Koni Lui, and I really thought JJ Jia was a lock for a nomination! Also, if they're going to put in one newbie, it should be Lin Xia Wei whose acting is better than Eliza and Christine and has already moved up to bigger supporting and 2nd lead roles.
My pick: It would be a travesty if anyone but Mandy Wong won.

Jamie Chik (Tasting Life)

What are your thoughts? Who would you like to win? Snubs?
TOTALLY AGREE with your picks.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to see Raymond and Tavia get Best Actor/Actress. The fact that they're from the same acting class makes it THAT much better! For best supporting actor, I'm torn between Koo Ming Wah and Power Chan. I have to say I like Power's portrayal of Sam Shun better than Koo Ming Wah being So Gay... but KMW has my pity points. His road has been so much tougher than Power's; winning the award would be a huge booster and secure his place in TVB.
